Hello everybody!
Sorry for the delay. I had a little problem with the connection to the blog. Anyway...
I hope you are all fine and that you enjoy your internship abroad or in Flanders.
First I felt apprehensive about my travel (I hate to travel by plane) and also about the change of environment which I would be confronted.
I finally received a very warm welcome of one of my tutors at the bus station of Reykjavik. She invited me in her home for a meal. Then we went for a walk in Reykjavik by night. It was completely surreal to be there!
I met a few days later Cominius assistants who are also teaching in secondary schools in the outskirts of the city. They are from France, Sweden, Lithuania and Germany. We'll probably go on a trip together organized by AEF...
I'm very lucky for my flat. Normally I should share it with a housemaid but I'm alone for the moment...
The first days where a bit strange for me because the sun rose at 10.15 and the daylight was not very strong, but you quickly become used to it and the days are getting longer now...
My first meeting with the teachers and the students of Menntaskólinn í Reykjavik was very cordial! They were very courious and asked me a lot of questions about Belgium, my origins, etc.
I give french lessons to a bit more than 200 students and it's really a nightmare to remember all the names because the way of pronouncing is very complicated! The students laugh a lot when I take the attendances and I have also a good laugh. :)
It's really amazing and so exciting to teach in a foreign country! I love it!!!
These are the first news of my Icelandic experience.
I'm looking forward to reading you all!
See you,
Karim
